During my rounds at Oakleigh Primary Scool, I designed a unit of work on measurement for Grade 6 students, I created an open-ended assessment task for the students to complete. This gave them the opportunity to show case what they had learnt and show how they could extend themselves. I set a certain amount of time for the students to complete what they could do as this would give an accurate indication of what they know and how much they didn't understand. It was great to see that the students attempted all the questions and understood how to apply what they had learnt into it. For the students who needed extending, they were able to use circles in their furniture and show their understanding of area when introducing circles.

'Assessment for learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for use by learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are in their learning where they need to go and how to best get there' (Assessment Reform Group 2002)
This form of assessment allows teachers to diagnose students current level and abilities. Some formative assessment techniques I would use include
- Regular observation notes
- Running Records
- Mini Whiteboards
- Thumbs up, Thumbs Down
- Traffic Lights
- Self Assessment
- Questioning
This form of assessment allows students to reflect on their progress and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning. Some of the ways this assessment will be provided is theough
- ongoing feedback (Verbally and Written)
- Student reflections to
- Self assessment
- assessment rubrics
- KWL charts
- questionnaires
- Peer assessment
This form of assessment allows students and teachers to see student achievements and assess their performance against their learning outcomes and if they have met their goals. This will be done though
- NAPLAN preparation
- Running Records
- Probe Tests
- Spelling tests
- Student Portfolios
- Work Samples
- Feedback
- Rubrics.
reporting allows students and parents to see learning achievements and outcomes. This information needs to be clear and accurate and can be presented in a number fo ways such as
- Individual Learning Plans (ILP)
- Parent Teacher Interviews
- Students Reports (Mid and End of year)
- Classroom diaries
- Open Door Policy for Parents to communicate
