I have had the opportunities to be involved in the school life by attending events such as district cross-country excursions (Sovereign Hill), sports days (Gala day), swimming lessons and interschool sport. This is giving me the experience to extend my teaching outside the classroom. As I have many experinces in sport, it has allowed me to share my passion and give some of the knowledge I have gained over the yeats to my students.

During the Sovereign Hill excursion I was put in charge of a group of students with another teacher and had to lead the group to the relevant areas during the day. This showed leadership and accountability to work with the students outside the classroom. This was apart of their Gold Rush Unit.

I've attended gala day, interschool sport, Cross country and round robin day. A teacher who was meant to take a team for netball was sick during the training session before the event as well as the date itself. I stood up and volunteered to run the training session and be the leader for the mixed team on the day. As I've been involved in all aspects of netball in my life and being an A Grade umpire, I've got the knowledge and skills to teach the students. During the training session all the students had their attention on what they were doing and they participated to the best of their ability, which is all I could've asked for. During the training session, a student who had ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) didn't have a sport for the day. He would wonder and try all of the sports at his own leisure. However, as I was taking my lesson he participated the whole time, which he had never done before. His aid commended my efforts, as I was able to keep him engaged as he had said in the past that he hated sport. His behaviour throughout the lesson was exemplary. I was very pleased that I was able to create an inclusive environment for him to participate in. At the conclusion of the session, he articulated that he just wanted to be like the other kids, and todays activities made him feel like a normal kid.

During the district cross country event, myself and the other student teacher managed the scoring table. Our duties involved recording student placement and handing out ribbons and notices. This gave us the opportunity to work with other teachers outside our school environment.

My involvement with parents has been more than I would've expected. On my placement at Oakleigh Primary School, following on from the gala day, one parent came to watch and helped the school throughout the day. I was able to include her in scoring duties and helping me where she could.

In my second placement I was able to work with the boy with autism. He had trouble making friends and keeping those connections during lunch and recess. I set up a lunchtime activity group, which had certain students in it so he could create those positive friendship groups. From this the teacher set up a meeting with his mum to discuss his progress. I was able to sit in on this discussion and talk with the mother about his progress and any other issues that the mother had that I would be able to help him out with. This was a great experience as I was able to have a one-on-one conversation with the parent whilst my metor was sitting right there to give me feedback on. As this happened in second year, this really allowed me to open up to parents and be able to talk with them effectively.

Other interactions I have had with parents include:

- Sovereign Hill

- Swimming

- Morning Reading

- Before and After School
