An example of using the ICT in the classroom is with Grade 1 using the interactive whiteboard. Instead of having a physical ‘Big Book’ to read to the class, I put the book online. This allowed me to use the interactive features such as clicking on the words and pictures to enhance student understanding and engagement.
During an inquiry unit in Grade 2, the students had a designated photographer and reporter. Their job was to go around the classroom and collect information about a topic and present it using the ipad (making a collage and poster). An example of the topic was words that start with C, so the students wrote some of these words down and created the letter ‘C’ using different materials in the classroom. They changed the photographer and the reporter everyday.
As an activity to use after the students had completed their work on the computers, was a program called Scratch. This allowed students to create an interactive story using animation and creativity. The students incorporated music, pictures, movement and their imaginations. This was a great activity for problem solving and being creative.

3.4 Select and use resources
4.5 Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically
During my placements I have learnt how to incorporate various types of ICT into my lessons. I have had the opportunity to work with Ipads, interactive whiteboards, computers, laptops and iPods. All of these had a positive effect on the students and expanded their understanding of ICT and the learning content. Not only have I worked with ICT devices, but also discovered some programs associated with the devices that can enhance student participation in class and develop their technology understanding.
